In the past few years Canada has become known as a destination for those seeking employment. With the worldwide recession setting back the economies of most countries, Canada is one of the few which is actively encouraging people with various skills from all around the world to emigrate there where they will be offered a job.

But Canada is also a great tourist destination whose potential has not yet been fully realized. The vast expanse of varied landscapes and the multi ethnic cities have created a wide array of visitor attractions. Here are some of the fascinating attractions of Quebec Province in Canada.

Ski Slopes in Quebec

Québec province is massive; so much so, in fact, that in order to get around, depending on the season you can travel by river, airplane, forest trail or even go cross-country skiing. As one would expect, there are a huge amount of domestic travel agents specialising in outdoor activities such as kayaking and hiking. To be sure you are getting the highest quality of service possible, make sure you book your trip with a member of Aventure Écotourisme Québec. If you are interested in fishing, or want to see wildlife up close, avail of the services of a Fédération des Pourvoiries du Québec member, as they offer a wide variety of tours including camping, motels, hostels or hotels. The choice is yours! There are 400 of these members, and you will find them all around Québec.

Québec is full of spectacular features created by nature, such as volcanoes, inlets, ravines, cascades and much more. A large number of these can be found in the province’s many national parks and UNESCO sites. The best bit is that, even though the province of Québec is undoubtedly huge, one is never really all that far from the wonders of nature. Around the city of Montréal, white-tailed deer graze. Just 30 miles from the city of Québec, one can witness the snow goose migration. Meanwhile, the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park is just two hours by car from Québec City.

Québec’s importance to biodiversity has been acknowledged by UNESCO, who have now designated four protected areas in the province to conserve natural ecological processes. These are Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Manicouagan-Uapishka, Lac-Saint-Pierre and Charlevoix. Charlevoix contains two national parks; Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie and Grands-Jardins. UNESCO has also made Parc National de Miguasha a World Heritage Site, due to the wonderful collection of fossils found here. Near the Gulf of St. Lawrence, on Île Bonaventure, is a quite significant reserve for northern gannets.

Québec is blessed with a huge amount of watercourses, but two which are especially noteworthy are the Jacques-Cartier (a Mecca for fans of rafters and canoeists) and the Saguenay, which empties into a spectacular fjord. This province’s landscape also features many canyons and gorges. Four of the most impressive are the Rivière Observation canyon, on Île d’Anticostithe; the Rivière Sainte-Anne canyon, just outside the city of Québec; the Portes de l’Enfer canyon, 22 miles south of Downtown Rimouski; and the Coaticook Gorge, in the Eastern Townships. Many outdoors enthusiasts say that they love to hear the roaring sound of water. If you are one such person, three in particular that you won’t forget are the Chute Vauréal, on Île d’Anticosti, which falls from a height of 330 feet, and the Chaudière and Montmorency Falls, not far from the city of Québec.

Rivière Sainte Anne Canyon

If you are interested in caverns, potholes and caves, Québec has about ten of these fascinating natural features to investigate. If the study of rocks and minerals is your thing, there is a huge amount of quarries and mines in the province, with major reserves of agate, gold, quartz and copper.

Do you have an event that you are hosting? Do you need a place to hold it? Depending on the number of people that are attending, then you may need a conference center. Many larger cities through out the United States, cities like Boston, have built or converted older buildings into conference centers in order to hold large gatherings. Here we will take a look behind the scenes of the conference centers.

A Place to Meet

Since the days of antiquity people have always needed a place where they can meet. In olden days those meeting places were more for political or for entertainment purposes. Since then not much has changed, we need meeting halls or conference centers for political conventions and for various entertainment conventions. An example of one of the most well known conventions would be the geek fest known as Comic-Con. At this conference scores of fans dress like their favorite comic book or movie character and gather together. This example is more entertainment, but conference centers are also for business conferences and conventions. Many companies hold their own conferences internally and some hold conferences or conventions with other companies within their field. An example of this would be the Siggraph conference that his held annually and hosts a number of different technology companies from around the world who come to show off their latest innovations or do workshops on how to use their new products.

Types of Conference Centers

There are many conference centers across the country and they come in many different types. The types of conference centers vary in their function and design. Many new conference centers are built to accommodate large massive crowds like those of a Comic-Con convention or political convention. While older conference centers are often buildings that have been converted to meet the demands of perhaps a small group of people. More often than not these buildings while smaller are more elegant and have sprawling grounds. Such places can be used for more of a formal setting like that of perhaps a large wedding party or other similar social gathering. When it comes to Conference centers some of the best centers are located in areas of the city that offer more than just the conference center itself. They are located at the heart of the social scene, offering conference attendees a chance to see what the city has to offer when the conference is over.

Services Offered

When selecting a conference center whether in Boston Massachusetts or some other city, different conference centers offer different services. Although many offer similar services like large and small conference rooms, technical services and perhaps even food services. There are many older conference centers that offer hotels services within the conference center. As most new conference centers do not. Most of the time hotels are separate and located some distance away from the center. The advantages to having the hotel within the center is that conference attendees do not have to travel and often better food services are offered and more of a relaxing atmosphere that is missing from larger and more modern conference centers.

Now in operation for 13 years, Air Canada Centre is the top venue for events such as concerts, conventions and sports games and is one of the most popular attractions of Toronto. It is also the base of the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club, Toronto Rock Lacrosse Team and Toronto Raptors Basketball Club. Over the years it has been the winner of over 25 awards and has been the venue of choice for thousands of events, attended by more than 26,800,000 people. The Centre is regularly refurbished to ensure it consistently offers up to date facilities. One of the most recent projects is the Maple Leaf Square extension. The committed fan service package on offer ensures that those hosting events make Air Canada Centre their first port of call.

Visit Canada’s Wonderland to see just why it is one of the most popular attractions in the country. It is an ideal entertainment destination for all the family, and will ensure that everyone has a great time! It is also an excellent place for groups of friends to hang out. This is the only park in the country to offer a Leviathan rollercoaster – a 201 kph thriller with an 80 degree drop – as the highlight. Other exciting rides include the Shockwave, 91.7-metre WindSeeker, Vortex and Behemoth. Children will love Dinosaurs Alive! and Planet Snoopy. Dinosaurs Alive! offers 2.8 fascinating hectares of educational displays, including more than 40 dinosaurs of actual size. As if all this was not enough, Canada’s Wonderland also is home to Splash Works, an eight-hectare water world with unforgettable rides such as Super Soaker, The Plunge and the Lazy River, to name just a few. Everyone is guaranteed to find a water ride here that they will love.

Collectively, the Toronto Islands form a picnicking and recreation park surrounded by water. There is a number of islands in the archipelago, which is visible from Toronto‘s harbour. Centreville Amusement Park and Far Enough Farm are just two of the many attractions to be found on the Islands. In addition, there are volleyball nets and a fleet of bicycles and boats which are available for hire. Centreville is surrounded by just under 243 hectares of fields and meadows, and offers more than 30 rides. There also is a choice of over 14 eateries, meaning everyone is catered for!

Franklin Children’s Garden, just off Toronto‘s coast on Centre Island, makes learning fun via interactive displays. Franklin the Turtle was the inspiration for Franklin Children’s Garden; this is not a place where one merely stands back and watches. Diving right in and enjoying yourself is encouraged! Discover how much of a thrill reading is, and learn all about this earth’s weird and wonderful animals and plants.

The Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, which dates from 1808, is Toronto’s oldest standing stone building. Situated on Gibraltar Point, it is also the Great Lakes’ oldest lighthouse still in existence. However, it has been out of active service since 1958, when the last lighthouse keeper departed.

Colborne Lodge is one of the very few remaining buildings of its type in Toronto, and is one of only ten Toronto Culture museums. This very attractive Regency cottage was built by John and Jemima Howard in 1837, after they had established High Park. John Howard was amongst the city’s first architects. Colborne Lodge still contains a large number of authentic early 19th century furniture and ornaments. These even include several of John Howard’s own watercolours, which show the city as it was long ago.

Fort York National Historic Site, dating from 1793, is where modern day Toronto came into being. In 1813, during the Battle of York, it was where the most dramatic events of the War of 1812 were played out. It was also Toronto Harbour’s premier defensive building from the late 18th century to the late 19th century. Up to the 1930s, soldiers were based here. Nowadays, the Fort’s fortified walls surround the country’s most extensive assortment of War of 1812 structures. Fort York National Historic Site receives thousands of visitors annually. They wander around the complex of eight historically significant buildings to learn about the story of Toronto, watch artillery presentations and take in the various exhibitions. Guided tours are also offered on a seasonal basis.

The Grill on the Alley is the place to go if you want great seafood and steak, as well as top notch standards of service plus a vibrant atmosphere that guarantees an enjoyable night out. Seasonal ingredients are always a priority and the very popular steak of the month is a great opportunity to sample the differences in taste between the various breeds. The menu also offers more adventurous options such as ostrich. The fish and seafood is on display in the open kitchen, so you can see exactly what you are getting for your money. One of the great places to eat in Manchester.

The Grill on The Alley Manchester

El Rincon de Rafa is a must if authentic tapas with top quality ingredients, freshly prepared and cooked, as well as surroundings that will transport you to the Mediterranean, are what you are looking for. Some of the recommended items include the mini chorizo sausages, tortilla, meatballs, seafood (exquisite) and patatas bravas. The atmosphere is typically Mediterranean – full of action, and hustle and bustle. One doesn’t come here looking for fine dining service, but they certainly do if they want to give their taste buds a treat!

Food lovers can find great prices for accommodation in Manchester at Hotel reservations Global.

The Northern Quarter Restaurant has made a vocation out of sourcing local food – with dishes such as Dolphinholme goat’s cheese, Mrs Kirkham’s, Goosenargh chicken and Pugh’s Piglets. They offer an excellent a la carte menu and a brilliant value lunch menu, at an unbeatable two courses for £9.95. The Sunday lunch is also another offering, with Gressingham chicken, Cheshire lamb and beef and a comprehensive choice of vegetarian dishes. This is food like your mother would have made – often, choosing just one dish will be easier said than done.

Sam’s Chop House has been a staple of dining and drinking in Manchester since the late 19th century, and it’s still going strong. The dishes are traditionally British, wholesome and great value – two lunch courses are on offer for £11.99, with options such as brown onion soup covered with a Lancashire cheese crouton, or corned beef hash cake decorated with a poached egg and HP dressing. Nothing hits the grill until you ask for it, and seasonal ingredients are a specialty. Afterwards, maybe you will want to wash that delicious grub down with one of the establishment’s cask ales? There is also an excellent selection of wines to choose from. Another unique feature of this restaurant cum pub is that it has a bronze statue of the renowned artist who hailed from Salford, L.S. Lowry. This monument to his memory is permanently on display at the bar.

Second Floor at Harvey Nichols offers a range of dining options, with a brasserie (offering straightforward fare such as salads, sambos, pasta dishes or all day breakfast), restaurant and bar. Choose from the Menu Gourmand or a two course special while looking out at Exchange Square. Whatever you choose, you can be sure that the produce is sourced locally and there will be some unique finds on the menu. A post-dinner aperitif in the form of a Harvey Nichols cocktail is a must.

There is a host of gorgeous temples among the sights of Bangkok - in fact, it is probably impossible to visit them all in one visit. However, three of the must-see temples in Bangkok are Wat Trimitr, Wat Pho and Wat Benjabophit. These three are mandatory if you want to catch a glimpse into the religious side of life in Bangkok. The holiest location in the country is The Grand Palace at Wat Phra Kaew. Here, worshippers come to pay homage to a carved jade statue called the Emerald Buddha. It may be only 46 centimetre high, but it is revered by many and to witness their devotion in action is a humbling experience.

The Grand Palace at Wat Phra Kaew

Ayutthaya is an excellent day trip from Bangkok as, although there is much to see, you can take it at your own pace. A recommended itinerary is to spend the morning wandering amongst the war-scarred ruins of what used to be the capital of Siam before spending the afternoon relaxing on board a river cruiser. Your feet may be tired from a few hours of exploring ancient temples, but your mind will be serene as you take in the warm breeze and admire Bangkok’s awe-inspiring skyline.

Bangkok as been a really popular destination for Western tourists over the past ten years or more. Check the prices of hotels. You can find some very good hotels in Bangkok which are very affordable here.

Siam Niramit is an 80 minute theatre production which tells the story of how civilisations bumped into each other at the crossroads of Siam, how karma connects Thai people together and how they make best use of their time on this earth through religious ceremonies and worship. Hundreds of actors together on what is the largest stage in the world, oozing that famous Thai expertise in what makes a spell-binding show (this isn‘t called the Land of Smiles for nothing), guarantee that this is a must-see show during your time in Bangkok.

Damnoen Saduak is by far the most famous of Thailand’s horde of floating markets. Located approximately 62 miles southwest of Bangkok, it is best to visit during early morning hours, as you will stand a somewhat better chance of having the place to yourself and temperatures will still be bearable. It has become more of a tourist attraction in recent years. However, it still gives the visitor a glimpse of “real” life in Thailand, with countless canoes packed to absolute capacity with all sorts of Thai produce, still fresh out of the ground.

Kanchanaburi, on the border of Thailand and Burma, is infamous the world over for being the site of iconic World War II landmarks such as the Death Railway (amongst Thailand’s most scenic train journeys) and Bridge over the River Kwai, but it has so much more to offer the visitor than history alone. This is a landscape of mountain peaks, tiger temples on the banks of rippling streams teaming with life, lush green forests and vertical cliffs from which waterfalls cascade into clear blue pools. This is the perfect opportunity to experience an elephant ride and take a journey down the river by long-tail speedboat or bamboo raft. This is an ideal day trip destination from Bangkok, as it takes just two hours to get here by bus from the capital.

Dubrovnik, in the Dalmatia region of Croatia, is recognised by UNESCO as a town of special interest. It is home to many historical monuments, such as Orlando’s Pillar. It also contains a number of ancient palaces and fascinating museums. On the many available day trips from Dubrovnik there are some wonderful sights to be seen. Not far from the city is the Pelješac peninsula, where the stone town of Ston is situated. South of Dubrovnik is Mljet Island. This is where you will find a famous Benedictine monastery dating back to the 1100s, established on an island in the centre of a lake.

The Benedictine Monastery on Mljet Island

Dubrovnik is famed for its Ston oysters and mussels, said to be the Adriatic’s best shell fish. It is also known for its frog and eel stew, originating in the Neretva valley. It is here that you will find more sweet pastries than any other seaside town. The best known are Kotonjata and Rožata, while Arancina and Mantalata cakes are also very popular. The best wines in this part of Croatia are Pelješac’s Postup and Dingac, as well as Korcula’s Grk and Pošip. Dubrovnik itself produces the very fine malvasia, from Konavle.

Check out the best deals on accommodation in Dubrovnik in our range of accommodation in Croatia.

Mostar is a very easy day trip destination from Dubrovnik. As it is situated in Bosnia and Herzegovina, you will need to bring along your passport. This city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a fascinating place to walk around as it is here that you will find the Turkish House, Old Bazaar and a number of beautiful mosques. Soak up the atmosphere of the city while wandering around the quaint craft shops, or savour a Turkish lunch in the way the locals would at any one of the many restaurants. Over the millennia, various religions and cultures have met here, meaning that today it has quite multicultural feel.

Off the Adriatic Coast is the day trip destination of Korcula Island, noted for its rustic streets that are laid out in a fish bone pattern. This is also said to be the place where Marco Polo was born. The city of Korcula, also located on the island, is one of the prettiest cities on this coast that dates back to the Middle Ages. The city’s patron saint is Saint Mark, and a beautiful Cathedral built in his honour stands here. A host of myths and stories surround Korcula, due to its long history and sheer beauty. To get to Korcula Island from Dubrovnik, catch a bus to Orebic. From here, you can get to the island by ferry.

Montenegro is often overlooked as a day trip destination amongst visitors to Dubrovnik, although it is just one hour away by car. Mountains slope right down to the sea in this immensely historical and cultural area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On one hand it is a great pity that Montenegro is one of the places less visited, as it does not receive the appreciation that its great beauty deserves. However, admirers who come back again and again are enjoying the peace and quiet while they can! As time goes on, Montenegro’s attractions are slowly becoming more well known, so visit now before it starts to buzz with tourists.

At Riverside Museum, visitors are encouraged to interact with a number of the exhibits. In this way, they can get a proper sense of what it felt like to be a passenger on public transport in the olden days. The biggest attraction is the South African locomotive. Here, they have also had the novel idea of recreating an entire Glasgow street as it would have looked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Walking its length, one feels that they have gone back in time. Again interactivity is the key – you are welcome to walk into and around the various subways and shops. With more than 3000 things to see, above as well as around you, be careful not to knock into anything!

Riverside Museum Glasgow

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is much more than what it at first seems – it is, in fact, 22 modern galleries, each with its own unique theme. Between these 22 galleries, a total of more than 8000 exhibits teach the visitor about a huge range of subjects. These range from natural history to the history of the military, to art through the ages, to name just a few. This is a family friendly institution, with a host of activities and interactive exhibits to keep the kids entertained. Once you visit, you will see why this is one of Glasgow’s most visited free attractions.

The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) is situated in a landmark building that for more than a century was the commercial hub of Glasgow. These days it plays an equally significant role in Glasgow’s social and cultural life, by being a place where people swap ideas, teaching and learning from each other. It is also an exhibition space for up and coming as well as established artists. In the library is a huge selection of books on all forms of art which are available to borrow. There is also complimentary internet access.

The Burrell Collection, approximately 5km from Glasgow city centre, is a fitting tribute to Sir William Burrell. This great collector amassed an impressive array of art from around the world. Whatever your interest – be it art from the Middle Ages, or maybe from the Orient, Middle East or Ancient Civilizations – it is here. Few individuals have managed to collect as many pieces of art; more than 8000 items are displayed in by this gallery, located at Pollok Country Park. Workshops and events for young and old, as well as temporary exhibitions, are often hosted here.

The Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) is a forum where paintings, sculptures, performers, movies, music, dance, spoken word and so much more get a platform to be seen, heard and appreciated. Very few other places contribute to Glasgow’s art and culture scene like the CCA. Every year the Centre hosts six important exhibitions of Scottish art, as well as works from around the world. This is also where Intermedia Gallery, which supports artists who need a foot inside the door, is located. To support culture and art in Glasgow, the CCA mentors artists and provides studios for them to hone their craft.

Croatian continental dishes generally have early proto-Slavic origins. In more recent times, as Croatia has developed closer ties with countries which have very specific style of cooking, such as Hungary, Austria and Turkey, dishes using freshwater fish, various cuts of meat, and vegetables have become more popular. These ingredients now feature in the majority of continental Croatian dishes.

Slavonian Kulen Sausage

Croatia’s coastal dishes have been heavily influenced over the centuries, as one would expect, by Greek, Roman and Illyrian styles of cooking. In more recent times, Mediterranean styles – in particular Italian and French – have also featured highly. As cuttlefish, squid, shrimp octopus and lobster are all readily available here, a number of different preparation and cooking methods using prosciutto, olive oil and vegetables are employed to create delicious seafood dishes.

Check out the best deals available online for cheap hotels in Croatia. Croatia is now a very popular and affordable holiday destination.

The Croatian region of Slavonia is full of castles; two of the most impressive are Pejacevic Castle in Našice and Požega Palace. Osijek is the biggest urban centre in Slavonia. This town’s most well known landmark is an imposing fortress, which looks down over its people. As a prestigious university town, it has the distinction of boasting two Croatian winners of the Nobel Prize – Prelog and Ružicka. Slavonski Brod is another fortress town; it is home to Europe’s biggest baroque fortress, which dates back to the 1700s. The town of Valpovo also has two beautiful baroque buildings; Prandau Normann and Prandau Mailath. When passing through the town of Ilok, make sure you pay Odeschalchi Castle, dating from Renaissance times, a visit. Horsey people cannot miss the stud farm at Lipizzaner, where these famous horses have been bred since the early 19th century.

Slavonia’s most traditional foods are Kulen’s sis sausage, ham and Kulen sausage. No dinner in this region of Croatia is complete without at least one of these on the plate. Some of the most traditional dishes in Slavonia would be grah cobanac (shepherd’s bean stew) and fiš paprikas (fish stew with hot red pepper). The accompanying beverage will, most likely, be plum schnapps. Slavonia produces a large number of noteworthy wines, like Graševina, Kutjevo’s Riesling and Ilok’s Traminac. The most common desserts to finish off a meal are saljenaci (made with pork fat), and a delicious cake which, oddly enough, is called Poderane gace (literally meaning ripped underpants). Pastries with apple or walnut fillings are also very popular.

Lika is a fascinating Croatian region. This is where Nikola Tesla, counted amongst the best thinkers in the world, was born (a museum dedicated to him is located in Smiljan, his village of birth). In the town of Krasno is a breathtaking Marian seminary. Head south and to the coast, and you will find the Senj fortress of Nehaj, which dates back to the 1500s, along with a museum on the Senj Uskoks, who were local pirates. Karlovac is the cultural heart of the region, with Dubovac, Bosiljevo and Ozalj castles, numerous rustic towns and Dominican, Franciscan and Pauline monasteries.

The Lika potato is so special, it has been awarded a Protected Geographical Indication. Velebit honey is also held in great esteem throughout Croatia. In Lika, a traditional meal begins with a berry liqueur or a pear / plum schnapps. This is followed by a starter of škripavac cheese with dried slices of game. The main course is lamb cooked in an iron bell under burning embers. This is accompanied by the ubiquitous Lika baked potatoes. For dessert, forest fruits such as raspberries and blueberries are enjoyed.

Alter Wirt, beside Munich’s Isar River, offers traditional Bavarian dishes, like oven roast pork in dark beer sauce and marinated free range steaks. However, it also serves dishes from around the world, like enchiladas, fajitas and an assortment of homemade burgers. The menu changes regularly, with themed days like ‘American BBQ’ and ‘Schnitzel massacre’. Outside, there is a cosy beer garden and a kids’ play area. Not only this, but lodgings are available upstairs in case the eating, drinking and merriment ends up continuing until the wee hours of the morning.

In the mid 18th century, Asam-Schlössl was the rural retreat of Cosmas Damian Asam, a prestigious painter. In the early 90s, this immensely attractive building was given a complete facelift thanks to the Augustiner brewery. With Birgit Netzle at the helm, the restaurant went from strength to strength serving delectable cuisine. It has been awarded many accolades, both within Munich and beyond.

When sampling the great food of Munich you may need to find a good Munich hotel at a reasonable price. You can find the best prices available on line here.

The Augustiner by the Cathedral is a Munich institution if ever there was one. There are few things more enjoyable in life than enjoying a meal consisting entirely of totally fresh and homemade local food devoid of garnishes, like trout, duck or fire red roast sausages. Seasonal delicacies also feature highly. What makes it even better is washing it down with a pint of the pub’s own beer straight out of the wooden barrel, the Augustiner. No wonder this comfy, traditional establishment is always so busy. Here, the chef, Erwin Reusch, has a straightforward ‘Nature Pure’ policy when it comes to food; no fuss and no trimmings, just the taste of the Bavarian-Munich dishes themselves. This policy won Augustiner by the Cathedral the 2010 Upper Bavarian Gastronomy 1st Prize. The great view of the nearby Cathedral is a bonus, of course.

Next door to the Church of Our Lady Cathedral and right in the heart of Munich is the Nuremberg Bratwurst Glöckl. This cosy Bavarian restaurant is now over a century old and the building that it is situated in was first mentioned in a late 14th century manuscript. By comparison, construction of the Church of Our Lady Cathedral only commenced in the mid 15th century. This is definitely one of Munich’s most unique and traditional pubs, as its claim to fame is its open beech wood fire-grilled sausages . These are carefully prepared daily by Nuremberg Bratwurst Glöckl’s resident butcher.

There are certainly some extraordinary dishes on the menu at Restaurant am Chinesischen Turm, such as lemons in shallot sherry, spinach salad with peeled oranges and grilled entrecôte with baby zucchini and potato gratin. However, there are also more “ordinary” dishes like crispy roast pork with potato dumplings and coleslaw, as well as some Bavarian specialties. Whichever delicacy you choose, it must be accompanied by a glass of one of the very fine wines that the restaurant has on offer. If you are on a budget, the lunch menu (different each day) comes recommended as it will only set you back €6.90 – well worth it for the exquisite tastes you will get in return.
